HEART - helping you live independently at home

HEART, the Home Environment Assessment and Response Team, can help you keep your home safe, secure and warm by offering support and advice on home improvements and disabled adaptations.

We can offer you advice on:

  • benefits, grants or loans for essential building works
  • home aids and adaptations
  • housing conditions, repairs and safety matters

Our caseworkers can carry out an assessment of your home and offer support tailored to your needs.

HEART can help with:

Managing your home

Depending on your needs, we can help by arranging small adaptations to your home, such as bath boards and stair rails, or larger adaptations such as stair lifts or room conversions.

We may be able to offer funding for such work, but even if you don't qualify for financial assistance, we can help.

Money matters

We can help you apply for financial support, including:

  • Disabled Facilities Grants
  • Other grants and loans
  • charity funding
  • benefits

Housing conditions

We can assess your home for common risks, including cold and damp, fire and security, and trip hazards, and help by either:

  • providing a grant or loan
  • finding a suitable contractor to carry out repairs or adaptations
  • putting you in touch with other agencies who can help

Our support in reducing risks in your home includes up to four hours free labour to address a wide range of issues, from replacing an electric socket to improving a step.
