Councillor Grants Scheme 2026/2027
The Councillor Grants Scheme provides the 42 councillors on Rugby Borough Council with up to £3,000 to support projects in their council ward.
The funding can support community projects and activities through Community Grants, or practical, one-off improvements through grants called Direct Local Action.
The scheme has been designed to be flexible, allowing councillors to respond to opportunities or priorities during the scheme's duration.
What can the Councillor Grants Scheme support?
Funding can be used to support:
- community groups and organisations, including development, activities, events and participation
- addressing environmental and neighbourhood issues, including litter, fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour, clean-ups, raising awareness, practical improvements and small pieces of equipment
- the protection and enhancement of green spaces, including improvements, engagement and community use
- the formal designation and long-term protection of green spaces, including Village Green and Community Green Space designation, Fields in Trust (and similar) protection agreements, engagement, evidence gathering, mapping, co-ordination and legal support (excluding legal representation in disputes, challenges or contested proceedings)
Before you apply
You must ask one of your ward councillors to nominate your project before submitting an application.
Applications can request up to £3,000 for a project nominated by a single ward councillor and up to a maximum of £5,000 for a project nominated by two or more ward councillors.
Applications for projects nominated by more than one ward councillor can be submitted in a single application.
Key dates and deadlines
- Monday 17 August 2026 - the Councillor Grants Scheme opens for applications
- 31 December 2026 - final deadline for councillor nominations
- 15 January 2027 - final deadline for Community Grant applications
