A guide to neighbourhood planning

Neighbourhood planning gives communities the power to draw up a shared vision for development and growth in a designated neighbourhood.

Parish councils or neighbourhood forums can establish neighbourhood plans - general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood, such as where new homes or shops should be built.

We have a duty to support and consider:

• applications from local bodies for the designation of a neighbourhood area

• applications from local bodies to become a neighbourhood forum for a designated neighbourhood area

• neighbourhood plans made by parish councils or neighbourhood forums
