Rugby secures nearly £10m to provide training and support for residents and businesses

Rugby Borough Council has secured a financial contribution of £9.9m to help deliver a training and innovation hub in Rugby Town Centre, offering financial and employment training for the people of Rugby.

The fund, secured by legal agreement from the Frasers Group, will support the hub's primary activities helping the businesses and people of Rugby, including work-readiness training, support for small businesses to access construction and supply chain activities, and training and innovation schemes for wider community projects. Part of the hub’s activities will also include ongoing outreach work for seldom heard and hard-to-reach groups in the borough.

The Council is currently considering options to provide the hub, ensuring it comes forward as soon as possible to benefit the residents of Rugby.

Cllr Michael Moran, Leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “Rugby’s Town Centre is an historic and significant part of our town, and its regeneration is of vital importance. That’s why it is so exciting to have secured this tranche of funding to help support upskilling and training for the people of Rugby, as well as supporting our businesses prepare for the future.”

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Chair of the Town Centre Working Group, said: “Securing this funding to provide vital support for the businesses and people of Rugby is a huge boost for our Town Centre. We are excited to launch the training and innovation hub as soon as we can and help to provide our local businesses with the skills and knowledge needed to take their businesses forward.”

The fund (£9,975,000) was secured by legal agreement which was a requirement of planning application R23/1027 from the Frasers Group, to support the hub.
