Rugby Borough Council has published blueprints for the refurbishment of the play areas at New Bilton Recreation Ground and Brownsover's Charwelton Drive following the first stage of public consultations a year ago - feedback from which helped shape the designs.

The masterplan for New Bilton Recreation Ground includes a refurbished and expanded play area, with new play equipment - including a combination swing frame, group rocker, metal climbing frame with toddler slide, group swing and a steel cableway - joining the refurbished inclusive roundabout, trampoline and dish roundabout.

The recreation ground revamp also looks set to include a new community garden with wildflower meadow and seating, a refurbished teen shelter, tree planting and a new multi-use game area (MUGA) to replace the current grass football pitch, catering for a number of sports all year round.

The masterplan for the Charwelton Drive play area includes a new carousel or pendulum swing, inclusive rocker, a metal climbing frame with toddler slide, a new dish roundabout, combination swing frame, a wheelchair roundabout, play house, and interactive play panels and games for younger children.

Residents can view the full masterplans for the play area refurbishments and take part in the public consultations at www.rugby.gov.uk/newbiltonrec and www.rugby.gov.uk/charweltondrive

Cllr Maggie O'Rourke, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for partnerships and wellbeing, urged residents to have a say during the public consultations on the play area masterplans.

"The council has a rolling programme of improvements to our parks, play areas and green spaces, and from the responses to the first consultations on our plans for New Bilton Rec and Charwelton Drive, we know residents want to play a part in shaping the designs for the refurbishments," Cllr O'Rourke added.

"This latest consultation gives residents a chance to a have a say on our masterplans, so we can finalise the plans and look forward to starting work at both sites later this year."

Cllr Neil Sandison, Rugby Borough Council's Liberal Democrat group spokesperson for partnerships and wellbeing, said: "Local families should respond to these consultations to ensure the new equipment, layouts and overall designs meet the community's needs.

"Your feedback can help shape your local recreational space for growing children and young people."

The public consultations close at 5pm on Friday 4 April.
