A nature-focused networking event hosted by Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust celebrated the community's dedication to environmental preservation and strengthened the connections necessary for future initiatives.

Nature in Focus Community Networking, held on Monday 2 March 2026, was a great success, bringing together nature-focused organisations and groups with a shared passion for the environment. The event was organised in response to feedback from attendees of the previous Nature in Focus event in July last year.

Fifty-five enthusiastic individuals from local community groups and organisations gathered to share their insights and celebrate the ongoing environmental work across the borough.

Ten community groups showcased their initiatives, raising awareness about their ongoing efforts and achievements.

A dedicated networking hour provided an opportunity for participants to discuss themes identified in feedback from last year. This included collaboration, strategies for engaging with young people, outreach opportunities and upcoming events. Attendees also talked about creating a community network to keep sharing ideas and supporting each other’s work. These topics will be discussed at future activities.

Cllr Alison Livesey, Rugby Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Operations and Traded Services and Chair of the Climate Emergency Working Group, said “It has been fantastic to facilitate an event for individuals and groups who are dedicated to environmental preservation and sustainability.

“We hope that the connections made here will help generate innovative projects and partnerships in the future.”

Cllr Sam Edwards, Rugby Borough Council's Liberal Democrat Group Spokesperson and Deputy Chair of the Climate Emergency Working Group, said “Giving local groups the opportunity to meet and network is incredibly important.

“The session has demonstrated a strong interest in people coming together, sharing common interests and goals.”

The session was supported and facilitated by representatives from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Rugby Borough Council.
