Winner of the Regional Small Scale Project of the Year

The Queens Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre has won the Regional Small Scale Project of the Year award at the West Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards 2026.

Rugby Borough Council received £185,000 in funding to reduce the overall energy consumption of its facilities, supporting environmental goals and helping to lower carbon output in line with the government’s net-zero objectives by 2025.

The leisure centre experienced rising energy costs between 2019 and 2022 despite implementing conservation measures. The awarded funds were used to install photo voltaic panels and replaced fluorescent lighting with LED lighting to improve energy efficiency. These upgrades have helped reduce energy consumption whilt also using renewable energy.

Over the last 12 months, the new system has generated 149,000 kWh of electricity and saved 29 tonnes of CO2.
