Cllr Louise Robinson, Leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: "Rugby Borough Council remains committed to influencing local government reorganisation to achieve the best possible outcomes for Rugby residents, businesses and communities.

"We welcome the clarity in the Minister’s announcement which enables us to progress the next steps."

“We are already working constructively with the other councils in Warwickshire and look forward to continuing that work to ensure a smooth transition into the new structure of local government."

“Rugby Borough Council is expected to continue to exist until May 2028 while the new unitary council is formed. In that time, we will continue delivering services and focussing on the priorities set out in our Corporate Strategy.

“That means working for a thriving Rugby, by supporting the local economy, investment and town centre regeneration; a greener Rugby, by protecting the environment and helping the borough adapt to climate change; a fairer Rugby, by reducing inequalities and improving housing; and a healthier Rugby, by supporting residents to live healthier, longer and more independent lives.

“Our focus throughout this process will be to speak up for Rugby and make sure the borough’s needs, identity and ambitions are understood and protected.”

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Deputy Leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “Local government reorganisation will be a significant change, but our priority is clear: Rugby must continue to have a strong voice.

“We will work positively with our partner councils while making sure Rugby’s interests are represented at every stage.

“In the meantime, residents should be assured that Rugby Borough Council remains focused on delivering day-to-day services and the priorities which matter to our communities.”
