Household waste and recycling (Section 46)
We work hard to keep our streets clean and free from litter. As a Rugby resident, you have the responsibility to manage your household waste correctly.
Household waste
You must place your household waste in your black bin and place this outside your property before 5am on your scheduled collection day. After your bin has been emptied, it should be returned to your property as soon as possible. Find your collection day
Recycling waste
Your recycling bin (blue-lid bin) must only contain accepted recyclable materials. These items should be clean, dry and loose. Recycling should not be placed inside plastic bags. See our directory of recyclable waste
Food waste
The food waste collection service was introduced in 2026. All food waste should be placed in the large caddy and placed outside your property on your scheduled collection day. See accepted food waste
Garden waste
If you subscribe to the garden waste service, your green bin must only include materials such as grass cuttings, flowers, leaves, weeds, sticks and twigs. Learn more about the garden waste service
Large items and excess waste
Items that are too large to fit inside your household bins must be taken to Hunters Lane Recycling Centre or you can book a bulky waste collection
Legal notice
This notice is issued under Section 46 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
If you do not dispose of waste correctly, this may result in your waste not being collected or you could receive a penalty notice of £60.
