The Warwickshire County Council elections take place on Thursday 1 May.

In the borough of Rugby, voters can elect candidates to the following county council divisions: Admirals and Cawston, Benn, Bilton and Hillside, Brownsover and Coton Park, Dunsmore and Leam Valley, Earl Craven, Eastlands, Fosse, Hillmorton, and New Bilton and Overslade.

Key deadlines and dates for candidates and election agents

Nomination appointments

Nomination appointments open following the publication of the Notice of Election.

The Notice of Election for the Warwickshire County Council elections in May looks set to be published on Friday 21 March 2025.

Nomination appointments start on Monday 24 March between 10am and 4pm. 

The Notice of Election includes details of the timeframe, location and dates for the delivery of nomination papers.

To book an appointment, email nominations@rugby.gov.uk or call (01788) 533526 following the publication of the Notice of Election.

Please note - we can only accept nomination papers for electoral divisions within the borough of Rugby. Nomination papers for electoral decisions outside of the borough of Rugby should be submitted to the relevant local authority.

Informal checks of nomination papers

The electoral services team offer an informal 'check' of nomination papers prior to formal submission.

The check aims to identify errors or missing information within the papers.

You can submit your nomination packs for an informal check by emailing nominations@rugby.gov.uk 

Please note - Emailing your nomination pack for an informal check does not constitute a formal acceptance of a candidate's nomination, nor does it replace the requirement for the original nomination to be formally submitted by hand within the define time stated on the Notice of Election.

Poll cards

The electoral services team looks set to start despatching poll cards to the Royal Mail from Friday 21 March 2025. Hand delivery of poll cards for the Rugby town urban area look set to take place from Friday 21 March to Friday 28 March 2025.

A second run of poll cards has been scheduled for despatch to the Royal Mail on Wednesday 16 April 2025, covering later registrations or amendments.

Postal votes

Postal votes look set to be despatched to Royal Mail in two tranches:

  • tranche one - expected delivery date from Saturday 12 April 2025
  • tranche two - expected delivery date from Thursday 17 April 2025

The first tranche includes any elector with an existing postal vote in place before Wednesday 26 March 2025.

The second tranche includes electors or proxies who submit a successfully determined postal vote application between Wednesday 26 March and the postal vote deadline of 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025.
